Privacy Policy

Effective Date: August 13, 2026
Last Updated: August 13, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Critic Farm (“Critic Farm,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information about you when you visit criticfarm.com, use our educational content and state insurance guides, use our free tools and calculators, or complete our interactive insurance-matching quiz (collectively, the “Services”).

Please read this policy carefully. By using the Services, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

1. Who We Are

Critic Farm is a publisher of educational content about car insurance. Critic Farm is not an insurance company, insurance agent, or insurance broker. We do not sell insurance policies, bind coverage, or act as your agent in any insurance transaction. We help visitors learn about auto insurance and, through our matching quiz, connect visitors who want quotes with third-party insurance carriers and affiliate marketing partners who can provide them. See our Disclaimer and Advertiser & Data Disclosure for more detail on how this works.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

  • Matching Quiz / Lead Information: When you use our interactive matching tool, we collect information such as your driving profile (e.g., age, driving history, violations), vehicle information (make, model, year, VIN where applicable), current coverage and coverage needs, ZIP code and address, and contact information, which may include your name, email address, and phone number.
  • Contact Forms and Email: If you email us or fill out a contact form, we collect the information you provide, such as your name, email address, and the content of your message.
  • Calculator/Tool Inputs: Information you enter into free tools and calculators (e.g., estimated mileage, coverage limits) to generate estimates.
  • Account Information (if applicable): If we offer accounts or saved-quote features, we may collect a username, password, and related profile information.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device and Usage Data: IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, pages viewed, links clicked, and timestamps.
  • Cookies and Similar Technologies: We use cookies, pixels, and similar tracking technologies for site functionality, analytics, and advertising/affiliate attribution. See our Cookie Policy for details and how to control them.
  • Approximate Location: Derived from your IP address or ZIP code entry, used to tailor state-specific insurance content and to route quote requests to carriers licensed in your state.

2.3 Information from Third Parties

We may receive information about you from analytics providers, advertising networks, and, where you have already been matched with a partner, from that partner (e.g., confirmation that a quote was issued), which we may use to improve our Services.

2.4 Sensitive/Financial Information

Certain information collected through the matching quiz (such as driving history, insurance eligibility factors, and, in limited cases, information relevant to your creditworthiness or insurability) may be treated as nonpublic personal information (“NPI”) under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (“GLBA”) because it is collected in connection with shopping for a financial/insurance product. We apply administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to this information consistent with GLBA’s Safeguards Rule, as described in Section 6 below.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Services, including our educational content, calculators, and matching quiz;
  • Match you with insurance carriers, agents, brokers, and/or affiliate marketing partners who may be able to offer you an insurance quote or product based on the information you provide;
  • Share your quiz responses and contact information (including phone number, where provided) with those partners so they, or Critic Farm on their behalf, can contact you about insurance quotes and offers;
  • Personalize content, such as state-specific insurance guides, based on your location;
  • Send you communications you have requested, including quote-related follow-ups;
  • Analyze usage of the Services to improve functionality and content;
  • Detect, prevent, and address fraud, security issues, or technical problems;
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not use the information collected through the matching quiz to make insurance underwriting or eligibility decisions ourselves — those decisions are made by the insurance carriers and partners you are matched with.

4. How We Share Your Information

We may share your information as follows:

  • Insurance Carrier and Affiliate Partners: When you submit the matching quiz, your driving profile, vehicle information, coverage needs, and contact information (including phone number and email) are shared with one or more insurance carriers, licensed agents/brokers, lead aggregators, and/or affiliate marketing networks so that they may contact you with quotes or offers. This is the core function of the matching tool and is described further in our Advertiser & Data Disclosure.
  • Service Providers: Vendors who perform services on our behalf, such as web hosting, analytics, email delivery, and customer support, under confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
  • Advertising Networks: For interest-based advertising and affiliate attribution, subject to your cookie choices.
  • Legal and Safety Reasons: To comply with law, respond to lawful requests from public authorities, protect our rights and property, or protect the safety of any person.
  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
  • With Your Consent: For any other purpose disclosed to you at the time of collection, with your consent.

We do not sell your Social Security number or, to our knowledge, “sell” your information for money in a traditional sense; however, some state privacy laws (including California’s) define “sale” and “sharing” broadly enough to include disclosures to partners and ad networks for cross-context behavioral advertising or lead-generation purposes. Accordingly, we treat these disclosures as a “sale” or “sharing” under those laws and provide opt-out rights. See our CCPA/CPRA Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page.

5. TCPA Consent for Phone Contact

If you provide your phone number through our matching quiz, contact form, or otherwise:

By providing your phone number, you consent to receive calls and text messages, including by automated dialing technology or prerecorded voice, from Critic Farm and/or its insurance partners regarding your inquiry. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out of texts.

You may revoke this consent at any time by replying “STOP” to any text message, telling a caller to stop calling, or contacting us at privacy@criticfarm.com. Revoking consent may limit our ability, or that of our partners, to follow up with quote information.

6. Data Security

We use commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction, consistent with the GLBA Safeguards Rule for financial/insurance-related NPI. These measures include encryption of data in transit (e.g., TLS), access controls, and vendor due diligence. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, including to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Quiz and lead data shared with partners is also subject to those partners’ own retention practices.

8. Your Privacy Rights

8.1 California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, correct inaccurate information, opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information, limit the use of sensitive personal information, and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. See our dedicated CCPA/CPRA Rights page for full details and how to submit a request.

8.2 Other U.S. State Residents

Residents of states with comprehensive consumer privacy laws — including but not limited to Virginia (VCDPA), Colorado (CPA), Connecticut (CTDPA), Utah (UCPA), and other states with similar statutes — may have similar rights, which generally include the right to:

  • Confirm whether we process your personal data and access it;
  • Correct inaccuracies;
  • Delete personal data;
  • Obtain a portable copy of your data;
  • Opt out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, and profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

To exercise any applicable rights, contact us at privacy@criticfarm.com. We will verify your request and respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf, subject to verification.

8.3 Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” signal. Because there is no common industry standard for responding to such signals, our Services do not currently alter their behavior in response to a browser Do Not Track signal, other than as described in our Cookie Policy.

9. Children’s Privacy

The Services are not directed to individuals under the age of 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will delete it. Contact us at privacy@criticfarm.com if you believe we have inadvertently collected such information.

10. Third-Party Links and Partners

The Services contain links to, and integrations with, third-party websites, insurance carriers, and affiliate partners. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties’ own data practices, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies directly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new “Last Updated” date and, where required by law, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
