How We Make Money

Last Updated: September 29, 2026

Anyone publishing insurance reviews for free should be asked who pays for it. This is our answer, with nothing held back.

1. Today: we don’t

Critic Farm currently earns no revenue from this website.

  • No advertising anywhere on the site.
  • No affiliate links in our reviews, guides, or articles.
  • No sponsored posts.
  • No payment from any insurer, agent, broker, or lead buyer.
  • No charge to you for anything. There is no paywall and no paid tier.
  • We do not sell your data. We do not sell data at all. See Your Privacy Choices.

The site is funded by its owners while it is being built. That is not a permanent arrangement, and the next section explains where it is going.

2. Where the money will come from

Our intended model is the standard one for a comparison publisher: we introduce readers who want a quote to licensed insurance partners who can produce one, and we are paid a fee for the introduction.

That is not switched on. The matching quiz currently collects what you are looking for and a person on our team follows it up. Nothing is transmitted to a partner, and nobody pays us for a submission. When that changes:

  • We will say so on this page and in our Advertiser & Data Disclosure.
  • We will say so on the quiz form itself, before you enter your details, naming who your information would go to.
  • We will not apply it to anything submitted beforehand.

We may also, in future, carry clearly labelled sponsorship in our newsletter, or sell advertising that is obviously advertising. If we do, it will be labelled at the top, it will never sit inside a review or a state guide, and it will never be written by our editorial team.

3. The rules that do not change when the money arrives

These are the commitments that make the rest of the site worth reading. They apply now and they apply after we are earning.

  1. Money never moves a score. Our insurer scores follow the published method in How It Works. A payment will never raise a score, reorder a ranking, add a “best for” badge, or remove a criticism.
  2. If we are paid by a company we review, the review says so. On the review page itself, not buried here.
  3. We will never present a paid placement as an editorial recommendation. A “top pick” on this site is our honest opinion or it is labelled as advertising. It is never the first without being the second.
  4. We will not take the offers that fund most of this category. No auto-warranty offers, no “free trial” products that quietly start billing you, no guaranteed-approval or guaranteed-savings claims, and no bulk lead buyers who resell your details to whoever bids. These are the most lucrative offers available to a site like ours and we are not taking them.
  5. We will never sell your personal information, and we will not pass it to anyone without telling you, at the point we collect it, exactly who.
  6. No brand we are connected to will review or recommend another one as though they were independent. If Critic Farm ever becomes part of a group of publications, every one of them will name the parent on its About page.

4. What compensation can and cannot influence

Being precise, because “we maintain editorial independence” is a sentence anyone can write.

It can influence It cannot influence
Which insurers we have the resources to review next What score an insurer receives
Whether a partner appears as an option to get a quote from The order of our rankings
Which topics we can afford to cover in depth Whether we publish a criticism
What our guides say your state requires
Whether a correction is issued

5. Who owns Critic Farm

Ownership and the responsible legal entity are stated on our About page. If that changes, or if we are acquired by anyone with an interest in the insurance industry, we will say so there and here, because it would be exactly the sort of thing you would want to know when weighing up a review.

6. Checking up on us

If you think something on this site reads like it was bought, tell us. If you are right, it gets fixed through our Corrections Policy and the fix is logged in public.

Critic Farm is an independent publisher. We are not an insurance company, agent, or broker, and nothing on this site is an offer to sell insurance. We carry no advertising, use analytics only if you allow it, and do not sell or share your personal information. Our matching tool stores what you tell us so we can follow up; it does not currently pass your details to insurance partners. See How We Make Money and ourAdvertiser & Data Disclosure. Rates and coverage figures shown are estimates for informational purposes only.
